How RustTrust Works

Understand exactly how RustTrust evaluates player profiles.

Mission

What RustTrust is — and what it is not

What we do

  • Help players and server owners read a Steam profile quickly.
  • Aggregate public Steam information into one clear overview.
  • Highlight objective risk indicators with their exact weight.
  • Show what could not be verified instead of inventing it.

What we never do

  • We do not detect cheats or inspect any game client.
  • We never state or imply that a player is cheating.
  • We do not access private data, chats or match history.
  • We do not ban, sanction or blacklist anyone.
Methodology

How the Trust Score works

Weighted criteria

Every profile starts from a neutral baseline, then each criterion adds or removes points. The total is clamped between 0 and 100.

Public data only

Steam Account Age

+18

Older accounts accumulate verifiable history.

Steam Level

+5

Long-term investment in the platform.

Rust Hours

+14

Consistent playtime on Rust specifically.

VAC Ban

-30

A Valve Anti-Cheat sanction on the account.

Game Ban

-40

Developer-issued ban; recent bans weigh more.

Community Ban

-10

Steam community restrictions.

Trade Ban

-12

Trading privileges revoked by Valve.

Friends Analysis

-14

Share of sanctioned accounts in the friend network.

Inventory Visibility

+5

A public inventory can be verified.

Profile Visibility

-8

A private profile blocks most verification.

Activity

+5

Recent, regular activity on the account.

Alias History

-8

Frequent name changes are a mild risk signal.

Weights shown are maximum contributions. Recent sanctions weigh more than old ones, and criteria that cannot be verified — for example on a private profile — are excluded rather than assumed.

Pipeline

From Steam profile to Trust Score

  1. 1

    Public data retrieval

We query the official Steam Web API for the profile, ban records, level and Rust playtime. Nothing private is accessed.

  2. 2

    Normalization

Raw values are converted into comparable indicators and missing fields are flagged as unknown rather than guessed.

  3. 3

    Weighted scoring

Each indicator contributes a positive or negative weight. The sum is clamped to a 0–100 range.

  4. 4

    Level & summary

The score maps to a risk level, and an automated summary describes the signals in plain language.

  5. 5

    24-hour cache

Results are cached for a day, then recomputed from fresh Steam data on the next analysis.

Interpretation

Risk levels

Trusted85 – 100

Long history, no sanctions, fully verifiable profile. Nothing suggests risk.

Reliable68 – 84

Healthy account with minor gaps. Low risk for most communities.

Neutral55 – 67

Not enough public data to conclude either way. Verification recommended.

Questionable42 – 54

Several grey areas — private data, young account, or network signals.

Suspicious26 – 41

Multiple negative indicators combined. Approach with caution.

Dangerous0 – 25

Heavy sanctions or a strongly degraded profile. High risk.

Honesty

Limitations

We cannot detect cheating software

RustTrust has no anti-cheat capability. It never inspects a game client, memory or network traffic.

We do not replace administrators

A score is context, not a decision. Server staff remain fully responsible for their moderation calls.

The Trust Score is an estimate

It is a statistical reading of public signals, and public signals are incomplete by nature.

Scores evolve

A score is a snapshot. It changes as Steam data changes, and an old screenshot proves nothing today.
